Lead vocalist, guitarist and principal lyricist of Ryokuoushoku Shakai, and a composer, the band’s Sony profile credits “Haruko Nagaya’s transparent yet powerful voice” and the fact that every member composes as the source of its range. Co-founded the band in 2012 in her high school’s light-music club with Issei Kobayashi and peppe. Her lyric-writing pairs with Kobayashi and the composing pairs with peppe and Anami on the title tracks, “Mela!”, Character, “Slow dance”, a 2×2 structure fans and critics both note; she writes words and music alone on In Search of the Aurora and "Shout Baby". Writes for other artists: lyrics for King & Prince’s Boy Meets Girl (music by Anami and peppe, arranged by Keita Kawaguchi and Anami, the whole band on a Johnny’s single), words and music for dish//’s New Normal, and words and music for the Choral Piece Because We Are Living Things (arranged by Naoko Sakurada). The band’s tie-in record runs through her voice: the 2019 film First Love Lost Time and drama You and I on the G String, My Hero Academia (“Shout Baby”, 2020), the apothecary Diaries, Delicious in Dungeon, Fuji TV’s volleyball coverage, Docomo; runner-up at Senko Raiotto 2013; first Kohaku 2022.
